BULGARI "Black" (1998).

Topnotes: Tea, Bergamot, Jasmine

Middle Notes: Cedar, Sandalwood, Leather

Base Notes: Amber, Musk, Vanilla

year: 1998

Created by: Annick Menardo

Bottle:  Thierry de Baschmakoff

ABSTRACT: A masterpiece from Bulgari (by Annick Menardo, who

created it in 1998), one of the most unmistakable scents of the

perfume history: once smelled, never forgotten.

Unusual, “strange”, “different” from another else, with an aroma of

smoke, aromatic woods, tires, synthetic rubbers…and asphalt, tar

freshly stretched out on the street, plus some “normal” amber and

 vanilla.

A fragrance that lifted up many eyebrows, because –basically- it’s

 “not like a traditional perfume.”

Some say that -as a concept- has been the basis for the realization of

many perfumes out later, including Gucci pour Homme (another

wonderful “smoky” masterpiece) which will arrive only in 2003,

and many other perfumes and "niche" ones, in limited production.

The unusual smell, strongly masculine, is greatly appreciated by

 women.

Beautiful as design, too: a circular bottle, covered with black rubber,

 with a silver lid.

Currently available only in some markets, almost disappeared from

 circulation.

Recommendation: STRONG BUY, both for the “revolutionary”

perfume (keep in mind it was year 1998), and for the historical

 value.

Still available (2013) at a very low price.

VOTE 9.5/10
