ABSTRACT  -"Blast from the Past" - This is a female fragrance by Balenciaga launched during 1988. Did I say "fragrance"? Let's be honest, this was not just a perfume: this was an olfactive cannon shot.
If you want to go unnoticed, Rumba definitely is not the perfume right for you; but if you want the whole world to turn towards you, this is the scent.
An endless pyramid (at least 20 declared ingredients), 24 hours-longevity on skin ( ..and a couple of weeks, on paper test), enormous sillage (a droplet fills your room): Balenciaga has always been famous for strong, heavy perfumes, but here we really go beyond limits.
For some people, it is a perfume too exuberant, almost vulgar, too sweet, too caramelized, with too many ingredients that don't mix each with other. 
For others, on the contrary, it is a wonderful example of that "perfumery over the top" of the Eighties (the famous "powerhouses"), a symbol of vitality, wealth, well-being, typical of an age now disappeared. A real blast from the past.
(NOTE: Around year 2000 "Rumba" copyrights passed to Ted Lapidus, producing the same product, but with his own name. Perfume is not exactly the same as the Ted Lapidus version appears a bit diluted, and obviously reformulated to be in step with laws and regulations. Therefore, if you search for the true Rumba, make sure it has the brand "Balenciaga".

Celebre profumo femminile di Balenciaga uscito sul mercato nel lontano 1988. Ho detto profumoParliamoci chiaro, questo non era un semplice profumo: questa era una cannonata olfattiva.
Se volete passare inosservati, decisamente Rumba non è il profumo che fa al caso vostro; ma se invece volete che il mondo intero volti la testa, questo è il profumo per voi. 
Piramide interminabile (almeno 20 ingredienti dichiarati), longevity che arriva a 24 ore su pelle (addirittura un paio di settimane su mouillette), sillage stratosferico (una goccia riempie la stanza): Balenciaga è sempre stata una Maison celebre per i profumi forti e decisi, ma qui siamo andati davvero sull'esagerato.
Per alcuni, è un profumo troppo esuberante, quasi volgare, troppo dolce, troppo caramellato, con troppi ingredienti che fanno a pugni tra di loro. Per altri invece, è uno splendido esempio della "profumeria sopra le righe" degli anni Ottanta, i celebri powerhouses, simbolo della vitalità, della ricchezza, del benessere di un'epoca ormai scomparsa. Uscito sul mercato in tempi lontani da leggi di restrizione e riformulazioni varie, concettualmente lontano anni luce dai profumi del XXI secolo, merita oggi di essere riscoperto.

(NOTA: intorno al Duemila i diritti di Rumba sono stati ceduti a Ted Lapidus, che lo ha riproposto in veste identica, ma con il proprio nome. Il profumo non è esattamente lo stesso, in quanto la versione Ted Lapidus appare diluita, più "al passo con i tempi", e ovviamente riformulata per essere in regola con le normative. Pertanto, se cercato il vero Rumba, accertatevi che abbia il marchio Balenciaga)
